Episode 19: Andre Brown

From journalist Maggie Freleng and the Obsessed Network

On January 15 1999, two teenagers were shot by a masked gunman in the Bronx, New York. The gunman first shot one and then chased down the other and shot him before running away. A witness said she saw the shooter remove his mask and eventually ID'ed college student Andre Brown in a photo lineup. Andre was arrested and a year later he was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder. Fortunately both teenagers lived, but he was sentenced to two consecutive terms of 20 to life...except Andre Brown couldn’t run. He too had been shot a year earlier and was recovering from major surgery in his leg...but this was not his lawyer's defense. Instead, his attorney - a mob lawyer for the Bonanno crime family, who eventually turned on his clients and entered the witness protection program - engaged in witness intimidation ultimately condemning Andre. But years later, after two decades in prison, Andre’s new team has found physical evidence linking a suspect to the scene...and it’s not Andre.
